Research and Development of Carbon Capture Technology

Research on carbon capture technologies has been long carried out in CSC, aiming at developing high efficient process to decrease the carbon emission intensity of iron and steel industry. Among varied capture technologies, chemical absorption has been chosen as the most feasible method to remove CO2 .

Capture technology related to ammonia based absorbent has been further focused, because of its relative low chemical reaction heat, low regeneration temperature and high tolerance to impurities of flue gases. Furthermore, ammonia solvent could be produced by the existing coal chemicals plant and waste heat source of steel mill can be potentially applied to reduce the cost of capture process.

The most challenge of NH3-based technology stems from the intrinsic property of high volatility of ammonia. Nevertheless, new process arrangement has been studied and developed to release from this disadvantage.
