CSC Bio Coal Sdn. Bhd. established a bio coal pilot plant in 2011 with the goal of coordinating with the CSC Group’s policy of developing green energy by replacing some of coal with bio coal made from pomace fibers of oil palms.  The bio coal will be used to generate the thermal energy needed in a boiler or a power plant.  
CSC Bio Coal Sdn. Bhd. was originally owned by CSC Steel Holdings Bhd.  It was responsible to work with China Ecotek Corporation and the expert team from the CSC Group to establish the bio coal pilot plant.  The installation of equipment was completed in 2012, and then the testing of bio coal production and improvement tasks followed.  CSC Bio Coal Sdn. Bhd. was officially transferred to CSC Asia Pacific Holdings Pte. Ltd. in August, 2015, and it will continue the CSC Group’s development of green energy technology.

CSC Bio Coal Sdn. Bhd. is located in Penang, Malaysia, where it can make use of the local fruit bunch fibers of oil palms.  These fibers can be made into bio coal, which can replace the consumption of some thermal coal, by the carbonization process to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide.  Bio coal is carbon neutral, and its applications have met all the regulations of renewable fuels regarding their emissions of carbon dioxide.  The primary biomass of bio coal can convert the carbon components into carbon dioxide by decomposition or combustion and then release it back to the nature.  The reduction of carbon emissions has become the trend because the utilization of fossil fuels has been limited.  As a result, there is commercial value for bio coal.  If one percent of bio coal is added into the total consumption of coal in Taiwan, there is a market demand of one million tons of bio coal annually.  CSC Bio Coal Sdn. Bhd. bears the responsibility of developing the green energy business entrusted by CSC.  Its large-scale test production line demonstrates the front-end of the global bio coal manufacturing technology.  At the present stage, it has endeavored to enhance its research and development, establish the mode of operations, and plan its production.  It has scheduled to reach the target for commercial production by 2020.
