To enrich the summer vacation of the school children in Siaogang, CSC offered diversified learning activities for their physical and mental development. As the domestic Covid-19 pandemic was under the effective control of the government, and the condition had slowed down and was quite stable, CSC held the 2020 King of Wisdom Summer Camp between July 20 and 24 in two sessions in Kaohsiung Municipal Chung-Shan Junior High School in collaboration with China Steel Chemical Corporation (CSCC). As the school focused on cultivating scientific and technological talents, science and emerging technology courses had been added in the activities to broaden the students’ horizons and facilitated them to develop the habit of active learning and knowledge seeking.

Principal Jiali Tian stated that the school’s goal of establishing a maker and tech center was to inspire students to make good use of knowledge and further improve their life. Each student would have the courage to accept challenges and enjoy learning by working together with others. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic this year, the principal expressed his gratitude to CSC and CSCC, two excellent corporations in Siaogang, for holding the summer camp activities in the spirit of caring about the community. It was hoped that Chung Shan Junior High would have more opportunities to cooperate with the China Steel Group in terms of nurturing scientific and technological talents who would integrate into the global community.

General Manager Hongkui Sun, Department of Public Affairs of CSC, said that a total of 100 students participated in the summer camp this year, and that he was very grateful to Chung-Shan Junior High School for their careful arrangements. The opening dance at the beginning was performed by robots to unveil the prelude to the camp activities, demonstrating the fruitful results of Chung-Shan Junior High School’s maker and technology education. It was hoped that students could learn more about the applications of technology from the activities and experience the convenience brought by technology in people’s life. General Manager Chen Yihong, Management Office of CSCC, said that he was honored to contribute to local education. As each course had been planned so carefully by the school, every student definitely learned a lot from these activities.

The programs of this summer camp were diverse and interesting, and the contents included knowledge areas such as beauty, science, energy, food safety, VR technology, etc., which not only allowed the students to learn more about the Curriculum Guidelines of the 12-Year Basic Education in advance as well as cultivate their scientific and technological understanding, but also integrated maker education and scientific knowledge into their daily life to strengthen learning and implement the teaching concepts of focusing on local features. As CSC has long been committed to protecting the environment and cooperating with the government to promote circular economy, environmental education programs arranged by the CSC Education Foundation were also included in the summer camp. In addition to allowing the students to be aware of the most popular issues, such as circular economy and resource reutilization, they made handicraft accessories themselves with recycled materials in a creative manner, which fostered the correct concept of resource reutilization.

Education is the foundation of social development and a project of vital and lasting importance. Schoolchildren are the masters of the country’s future. As CSC adheres to the concept of coexistence and co-prosperity with the local area and cares about local education and culture, it holds the King of Wisdom Summer Camp every year. Apart from giving the students in the Siaogang District a fulfilling and meaningful summer vacation, CSC also looks forward to guiding them to find their own interests in various programs, which lays a good foundation for their future learning and development, as well as fulfills its corporate social responsibility.
