The 2017 Steel Journey Activity Held by CSC

To enable graduating elementary school students to preliminarily know what a wholly-integrated steel mill is and what steel-related industries are, CSC has continued to hold the Steel Journey Activity, which was carried out with the assistance from Pingding Elementary School and the CSC Educational Foundation this year. Approximately 1,400 graduating elementary school students from 13 different schools in Siaogang visited CSC in four sessions on May 18 and May 19, 2017, respectively.

This year’s activity was quite lively and fun. In addition to introducing how steel was made laboriously by ancient people, what the modern production processes of steel are, and what its applications are today, staff from the CSC Educational Foundation also designed elaborate Q&A games for the “Steel Elementary School” activity, which focused on steel knowledge, energy conservation, reduction of carbon emissions, and environmental protection. Knowledge that was originally hard to grasp became fun puzzle games for the students whose impression of CSC eventually became positive.

CSC retirees acted as volunteers in this activity. They felt very happy to serve the students who were at similar ages as their grandchildren and work with their ex-colleagues. They also felt the activity was meaningful as they made efforts to contribute to local education and fulfillment of CSC’s corporate social responsibility.
