The 2016 Ceremony for Recognition of Filial Piety and Granting of Meritorious Scholarships

To celebrate Mother’s Day and promote filial piety as well as local educational and cultural levels, CSC commissioned Min-yi Junior High School to hold the 2016 Ceremony for Recognition of Filial Piety and Granting of Meritorious Scholarships in the school’s activity center on the second floor. 27 model students who were recommended by 17 junior high schools and elementary schools and their parents as well as representatives of the winners of the scholarships were commended. Approximately 500 attendees, including teachers, students, and parents, participated in this heartwarming activity.

There were many warm and touching cases among the commended award recipients, for example, Yu-chun Huang from Min-yi Junior High School. She and her sister lived with their grandmother, and both were also raised by her. Yu-chun Huang’s academic performance and conduct were very good at school although she came from a poor family. After school, she actively helped out with the housework; moreover, she sold ba-wan (fried/steamed round dumplings with ground meat) with her grandmother on holidays. She was indeed a role model for students. Wen-han Wang from Ganghe Elementary School was another good example. Her mother had been hospitalized on a long-term basis, and her father had to leave early and return late in order to provide for the family. Wen-han Wang never complained about her conditions. In addition to actively doing housework, she did her best to take care of her mother. To maintain her mother’s quality of living and to let her father sleep a bit longer in the morning, she bought breakfast for her family on her own and then took care of everything before she left for school. She not only did her best to share the work at home but also studied diligently. She was a caring and sensible child who could surely be a role model for others.

The award-winning string orchestra and wind band from Min-yi Junior High School, the drum band from Fong Ming Elementary School, and the dance performers from Hanmin Elementary School were invited to perform during the ceremony. The audience truly enjoyed all the performances. Finally, the activity ended in a heartwarming atmosphere, and all the participants spent a touching and meaningful Mother’s Day together.
